Friday Night Fish Fry in Oistins

After nearly two years of Government sponsored renovations, the "new" Oistins Friday Night Fish Fry has returned to its original seaside location. Situated directly beside the open air Oistins Fish Market, the colorful new buildings which house numerous food and drink vendors, craftsmen and artists are a perfect setting for the lively and high energy crowd who casually stroll the grounds in search of the best rum punch, fish cakes, and grilled fish. Loudspeakers are blaring Calypso tunes and before you know it has to play Happy Feet as a conga line formed by young and old alike swayed to the rhythm of the center illuminated.

Wood fueled grills --- "coal pots" in Bajan dialect --- fill the air with incredible aromas of experience Bayan red snapper, flying fish, dolphins, swordfish and barracuda. Or try the fish Bill or fish steaks, tuna and marlin. The fish seem to swim as fresh as the proverbial more. Marinated and slow-cooked grilled chicken is randomlybone. Pages of bread, rice and peas, pasta, salads and desserts round off the cost of a casual, will find a dining table style picnic, where communal tables are the norm. Bajan pepper sauce bottles of mustard yellow dot every table waiting to attack innocent language of ignorance or a drop of sweat on his upper lip, the true believers to provoke. Unfilled, as the vendors with their ubiquitous marine cooler with a cold beer and ceremonies of the island are always worriedThey wave.

The atmosphere is charged directly from a novel by Graham Greene: sunburn, beads, flip-flop tourists mix easily with the home-crowd, always smiling, all looking for a good night in town. This family friendly facilities, clean and modern, are a welcome transformation of the old fish market. While some may be longing for change, Barbados was in danger, the act of a few years ago, when a less attractive young local audience with a threatening environment with the supporttheir foul language, eardrum splitting cacophony of music and sometimes incompatible behavior offensive. But those days are now uncomfortable memories fade when greeted by a sea of laughter and healthy food and drink endless hours flow of tourists arriving in H car and taxi. A brigade of policemen in uniform, Barbados is crisp and majestically in an effort to close should not even think of raising the top. Children dance with mom and dad proud, fits in any place in the Oistins Fish Frywhere the only rules are, the Golden and have a good time.

While Barbados is 7 days a week, is linked to on Friday evening, the traditional party atmosphere of celebration with Barbados. Some shops, like Lexie, are open during the day. Eating at night is from about 6 continue to be available. Prices vary, but generally expect to pay about Bds $ 15.00 and $ 20.00 per plate of food (U.S. $ 7.50 to $ 10.00). A bargain by the standards of Barbados. Take time to stroll and enjoy the hand --Necklaces, shells, hand-made shoes from the Rastafarians, and a negotiator, the joy of interesting local art. Feel free for a price "better to ask:" How everything is negotiable. To proclaim the vendors all the people who seek the best fish or chicken and their advertisers that you arrange to sample a particular offering cabin. But I do not feel like most of bids was set for the same quality with similar menu under pressure. One caveat: if so inclined to ask, if the rum punch is "correct Rum Punch" or home-made than aBusiness mix purchased. This is a local who knows a thing or two to be considered for their rum punch!
